All too often, we hear about sellers giving up on Etsy because they feel like they are being punished by the platform's search algorithm. Some new sellers don't realize that a slow month of sales might actually be affecting most shops in their category.

Competitor Sales allows you to track the estimated daily, weekly, and monthly sales of your competitors' shops.

Benefits

Use Competitor Sales to see how your shop compares to other shops in the same category and get real-time updates.

This feature makes it easy to see if your competitors’ daily, weekly, or monthly sales are increasing or decreasing. This can be especially helpful when you’re experiencing a drop in sales and need to figure out if it’s due to a widespread decline in business within your niche or if your listings need some revision. If you track several shops that focus on one niche or trend, this feature can show you when that niche or trend has passed its peak.

Please note that Etsy makes a distinction between sales and orders. Each item purchased from a shop counts as one sale. Example: an order containing three items counts as three sales.

How to use

In the Main Menu, select "Competitor Research" and then "Sales."

Creating your competitor list

Type the name of any active Etsy shop you wish to track into the search field. Then, click the green "Track Shop" button for eRank to add that shop to your competitor list. To make comparing your sales data easy, eRank automatically adds your shop(s) to the list as well.

The "Columns" pop-up in eRank's Competitor Sales tool.

Customizing your list

Click the "Columns" button on the right side of the page to choose the data you'd like to view.

Click and drag any column to change its position in the report below.

Viewing your list

Use the data table to view each shop’s name, sales trend data (shown in an interactive graph that portrays its estimated monthly sales over the past 15 months), total sales for each of the past seven days, total sales for the week, total sales for the month (available to Pro and Expert members), and total sales since opening. This list also shows the number of active listings each shop has, along with each shop’s age.

Use the "Min" and "Max" fields above the sales columns and "Active Listings" column to find shops in the data table with sales or listings that fall within a specific numerical range.

Clicking any shop’s name will take you to our Shop Info feature, where you can view in-depth statistics about that shop.

Click the gray box in the "Graph" column to the right of any shop's name and then click the blue "Show Graph" button above the data table to display a line graph that portrays that shop's daily sales over the past 30 days. Add multiple shops to the graph to compare and contrast their daily sales volumes.

Click the space underneath the "Note" column to add a note about any shop. This could be a reminder of what niche the shop is in, where they are located, or any other information that will be helpful to you.

Notes

  • An orange airplane symbol next to a shop’s name indicates that the shop is on vacation.

  • An orange exclamation point next to a shop’s name indicates that the shop is inactive or closed.

  • If you see any negative numbers in a shop’s sales data, please note that returns and cancellations will reduce the total number of sales for a shop on the day they are processed by Etsy. This will reduce the number of sales for that day. As a result, you may occasionally see a negative figure.

  • Data in this report updates in near real-time, typically within a few seconds of a purchase being made.

  • Basic members can track up to 5 shops, Pro members can track up to 50 shops, and Expert members can track up to 200 shops. Please note that shops of your own that you have connected to eRank will not be included in this quota.

  • All sales numbers are based on the EST/New York time zone.

If you are a Basic member, Pro member, or Expert member, click the "Export" button on the right side of the page to export, copy, or print the list for future reference.
