eRank's Listing Audit tool performs a comprehensive audit of any listing to see how well it complies with the guidelines in Etsy’s The Ultimate Guide to Etsy Search and Google Search Essentials.
Benefits
This feature provides a thorough analysis of a listing’s title, stats, attributes, tags, description, and more.
Audit results are divided into sections. This makes it easy for you to assess each component of the listing and learn the basics of Search Engine Optimization (SEO).
We suggest that you work on listings that are converting poorly first and leave the ones that are performing well alone until you are familiar with the SEO that works best for each of your items.
Use this feature to audit both your own listings and your competitors’!
How to use
For easy access, this feature is linked within most of eRank’s listing reports. Click the "Listing Audit" button beneath any listing's title to view its Listing Audit report page.
You can also access Listing Audit via the "Analyze" section on your eRank Dashboard.
Free members can audit up to five listings per day, Basic members can audit up to 50 listings per day, Pro members can audit up to 200 listings per day, and Expert members can audit up to 500 listings per day.
Top of page
We recommend that you start by clicking "Sync Listings" in the top right corner of your screen to sync eRank with Etsy and view the most recent data.
You can view the listing you're auditing at the top of the page.
Click the name of the shop selling the listing (located under the listing's title) to open our Shop Info tool and view more information about the shop and where it ranks.
Below the listing's title and shop's name, you'll see the following information:
An icon indicating whether the listing is active or a draft
How many units of the item the shop has in stock
The date the seller created the listing
Click the "Actions" dropdown menu on the right to edit the listing on Etsy (only if it's one of your own listings), view the listing on Etsy, or refresh the listing (eRank recommends doing this each time you audit a listing to ensure that you're viewing the most recent data).
"Audit" tab
Overview
You can view the following information at the top of the "Audit" tab:
Metric | What It Means |
Views | The number of times the listing has been viewed since it was created. |
Sales | The number of sales the listing has had since it was created. |
Est. Conv. Rate | The ratio between the number of people who made a purchase and the number of people who clicked on the listing. So, if your listing generated 10 sales after 1000 people clicked on it, its conversion rate is 1%. The higher a listing's conversion rate, the better. |
Favorites | The number of favorites the listing has had since it was created. |
Title
Use this section to view potential issues with the listing's title and tips on how to improve it according to Etsy best practices. Etsy recommends that you use language that sounds natural and choose common words as descriptors. Put your most important keywords (i.e., what your item is) at the beginning of your title. Etsy does not specify what character count constitutes “short” in a title, so use your best judgment.
Hover your cursor over the "i" icon to the right of any of the flagged potential issues below the title to learn how to fix the issue, if need be.
This section displays the total number of characters in the listing's title in the top right corner. Please note that the longer a listing's title is, the more likely it is to overwhelm shoppers.
Superstar Keyword
If you're auditing one of your own listings, you can use this section to enter a "superstar keyword" for the listing.
A superstar keyword is a multi-word phrase (also known as a "long-tail keyword") that is specific enough to have relatively low competition, but broad enough to match with a wide range of search queries.
Tags
Use this section to review each of the listing's tags and identify any tags that may need to be revised or replaced.
Use the dropdown menu in the top right corner of this section to select which country you would like to view data from.
Sort your data using the small gray arrows at the top of each column.
This table includes the following information for each tag:
Column | What It Means |
Keyword | All of the listing's tags.
eRank notes any repeated words in the listing's tags at the bottom of the table. Repeating words in a listing's tags or title is unnecessary and will not improve its SEO. |
Trend | These graphs display each keyword’s changes in popularity over the past 15 months. Hover your cursor over the bars of any keyword's graph to see how its search volume has changed over the past 15 months. From this data, you can get a sense of a keyword’s seasonality and whether it is becoming more or less popular. |
Searches* | The average number of searches per month for the keyword, based on the past 12 months of Etsy data. |
Clicks* | The average number of clicks the keyword gets per month, based on the past 12 months of Etsy data. |
Comp.* | The number of listings that were matched to the keyword you searched. This metric does not include ads or personalized results. |
Multi-Word | This indicates whether or not the tag consists of more than one word.
eRank notes any single-word tags in the listing at the bottom of the table. While single-word tags don't negatively affect a listing's SEO, using multi-word tags better utilizes each space. |
Grammar | This indicates whether or not eRank thinks there may be a grammatical error in the tag. |
Start Of Title | This indicates whether or not the tag appears at the start of the listing's title. |
In Description | This indicates whether or not the tag appears in the listing's description. |
*This data is color-coded as follows:
Color | What It Means |
Green | The average number of monthly searches or clicks for the tag is very high. A green competition bar means that competition with the tag on Etsy is very low. |
Yellow | The average number of monthly searches or clicks for the tag is high. A yellow competition bar means that competition with the tag on Etsy is low. |
Orange | The average number of monthly searches or clicks for the tag is low. An orange competition bar means that competition with the tag on Etsy is high. |
Red | The average number of monthly searches or clicks for the tag is very low. A red competition bar means that competition with the tag on Etsy is very high. |
Description
Use this section to view potential issues with the listing's description and tips on how to improve it according to Etsy best practices. Just like in the "Title" section, you can view this section's character count in the top right corner.
Hover your cursor over the "i" icon to the right of any of the flagged potential issues below the description to learn how to fix the issue, if need be.
Media
Use this section to view the listing's images.
Keep in mind that, if you don't provide multiple high-quality photos of your item, there is a good chance that shoppers browsing your store will move on to purchase an item from a more visually appealing listing in a different shop. eRank recommends that you add at least five high-quality photos to each of your listings (Etsy allows up to 20 photos per listing). Make sure that you include photos taken from every angle (from above, from below, and from each side of the item).
We also recommend that you add alt text to each photo. Alt text provides a description of an image for shoppers using screen readers. Additionally, alt text can help increase your listings' visibility in Google search results.
Finally, we recommend that you add a video to each listing. Etsy allows one 5-15 second video per listing. This is a great way to show your item "in action" and being used for its intended purpose.
Materials, Attributes, Category, and Processing Time
Use these sections to learn more about the listing.
The "Materials" section displays any materials added to the listing. Some examples of materials are cotton, wood, and metal.
While the materials added to a listing do not factor into its SEO, they do provide interested shoppers with more information about the item.
The "Attributes" section displays any attributes added to the listing. Some examples of attributes are color, style, and recipient.
The "Category" section displays the listing's category and the subcategories it was filed under.
Adding all of the relevant attributes, categories, and subcategories to a listing helps "explain" the item to Etsy's search algorithm. This can improve its SEO, helping it appear more frequently in Etsy search results.
Returns and Exchanges Policy
Use this section to view the listing's return policy.
Etsy requires sellers to set a return policy for each listing before publishing it.
Listing Feedback
Use the list(s) in this section to view a best practices checklist that summarizes what has been completed and what may need improvement for each part of the listing:
List Item | What It Means |
Grade (only visible for your own shop's listings) | A grade that eRank assigns to your listing based on how well we believe it is following Etsy's best practices. Please note that the grade does not reflect the number of views or sales the listing has had. |
Title | The listing's title. |
Description | The listing's description. |
Tags | All of the listing's tags. |
Media | The listing's images, alt text, and video. |
Materials | The materials that have been added to the listing. |
Attributes | The attributes that have been added to the listing. |
Categories | The category and subcategories that have been added to the listing. |
Processing Time | The listing's processing time. |
Policy | The return policy that has been added to the listing. |
If you're auditing one of your own listings, this checklist is split into two tabs: "Pending" and "Done.
Use the "Pending" tab to view a summary of all of the listing's potential issues and tips for how to improve it according to Etsy best practices.
Toggle the button at the top of the checklist to "Done" to view a summary of everything that has been completed in the listing and additional SEO tips.
"Performance" tab (available for any of your shop's listings that have had sales)

Please note that the Basic plan was introduced during COVID-19 as a temporary measure to support sellers. In August 2025, we retired the Basic plan to adapt to Etsy’s new API pricing and continue offering powerful, reliable tools. Rest assured, if you are a Basic member, you will remain on your current plan indefinitely unless you decide to cancel or upgrade.
